On November 16, 2022, Axiom Managing Director, Alvin Ma, who also serves as an adjunct Assistant Professor and lecturer at the University of Hong Kong’s (HKU) Business School, facilitated a guest speaking event with Franco Leung during their senior AMPB (Asset Management and Private Banking) Capstone class.
Franco currently serves as the Associate Managing Director, Corporate Finance Group at Moody’s Investor Service. He started his career in Finance with Standard Chartered Bank and had worked in various departments – including: Rates and FX Sales and Trading, Global Markets Division, Group Treasury Division and Credit, Specialized Finance Division. After graduating from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with a degree in Quantitative Finance, he participated in an Economics Exchange Program at the University of California in San Diego. Students in the Capstone class got to hear a detailed walkthrough of how fixed income markets and credit analysis were performed in real life. They also learnt about Moody’s rating methodology and approach. This is part of the Capstone course related to current issues in asset management and private banking.
Franco ended his lecture by offering some advice to students who might be interested in joining the field of Credit Analysis – to know what their own interests are, to understand their own strengths and to decide what they really enjoy doing. In the field of Credit Analysis, Franco further explained that employers would be looking for the following attributes in potential talent: strong communications and interpersonal skills, excellent financial knowledge and analytical skills and to be able to work well with others.
